MUSIC BIZ: Publishing Q+A x SESAC's Gregg Smith
Why are PROs important? As a songwriter or producer you are owed a “performance royalty” any time your music is played on radio, in the background as people shop and eat, or even performed in live concert venues. Those royalties are then paid to PRO like ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC, who then distribute the money to songwriters and publishers.
Each PRO has its own pro's and con's and payout schedules so it's important to choose the best organization for you.
