The Trademark Issue Haunting Prince in Death Every Brand Owner Should Know About

Did you know that TINY inconsistencies in your branding can block you from getting a trademark? Even mega stars like Prince are getting denied by the US Trademark Office for failing to be consistent in how his brand was represented.

Despite being culturally synonymous with purple to the point of even being called "the Purple One” and the Pantone company even making him his own shade of purple, the US Trademark Office has denied his estate's application to trademark Prince Purple due to the many shades of purple the artist used over the course of his career.

If you are using different logos, different spellings, even different spacing in the words that comprise your brand your trademark application CAN BE DENIED. In order to legally protect your brand against copycats you must have a registered trademark and every inconsistency hurts your chances of getting one. Wondering about trademarking your brand? Let’s talk about it.
