In order to negotiate top dollar for my clients I sit down with each one and help them find the answer to the magic equation.
Knowing the answer to the magic equation means knowing your value and being able to state it clearly and confidently.
If I asked you your value would you be able to state it clearly in a sentence or two?
The ability to clearly communicate your value is what turns offers for ‘exposure’ into checks
Here are few examples to help you along in understanding what I mean by clearly articulating your value:
I am a fashion blogger. When I post my outfits on IG, at least 200 people click the links to brands I’m wearing. My audience member is 18-23 and female.
I am a music producer. When I produce songs ,1 out of 5 people have a mega hit. My typical client is an R&B or Pop singer.
I am a tech influencer. When I post hot new product reviews on YouTube, 10K to 50K people watch them. My typical audience member is 25-45 years old and male.
I am an online brand coach. When I coach individuals, 75% of people see an 200x increase in revenue and profits. My typical client is an online entrepreneur making at least $30K annually.
When you find the answer to YOUR magic equation you can negotiate with power knowing your truth worth. You know in exact terms what positive impact your talent or service brings and who exactly it brings it to.
Knowing your positive impact helps you JUSTIFY YOUR PRICING
EXAMPLE #1
Potential Client: Wow! Your rates are really high for brand coaching!
You: This is definitely an investment, however as a result of this investment, my coaching clients typically see their business profits more than double.
EXAMPLE #2
Clothing Brand: We would love for you to post wearing our new holiday hoodie collection! We’ll send you one free in exchange for the post!
You: I’d love to work with your brand! My typical OOTD posts generate around 200 clicks to brands like yours (see links here), if we can setup a custom affiliate link at 20% for my audience I can have a post up by Thanksgiving!
Knowing your audience/client helps you say NO to the wrong opportunities and clients
EXAMPLE #3
Nightmare Client Who Won’t Pay or Asks for Refund: I’d love to work with you! Can you take me on! I have a great idea for an online business
You: Unfortunately I’m not taking on new owner clientele right now. Would definitely love to work with you in the future though! My typical clients are usually 2-3 years into business and grossing at least $30K annually.
